That depends on what is meant by "better". Sure, rare earths would produce much more power. Neodymium magnets are currently the best there are, and they produce 3 to 4 times as much energy as the Ceramic-5 magnets we use. However, super strong magnets are not safe in a classroom environment. If you drop 2 neodymium magnets at the same time, they will attract each other with such force that they can shatter and bits can fly off at high velocity. It is recommended to only handle Neodymium magnets when wearing proper eye protection for this reason. So, if “better" means "would produce more power" then Neodymium is better. However, if "better" means “being good as a classroom project” then Ceramic-5 is the better choice.
