Solar Power
About solar power
The sun is extremely hot—about 15 million °C, or 27 million °F—and provides a wonderful, natural resource for power. Most of us have used something in our own homes that is solar-powered—a simple calculator, for instance. Developing an understanding of how to better channel and use solar power is an important piece of the renewable energy puzzle.
Using mirrors, we’re able to collect the sun’s energy to provide the heat necessary to produce electricity. Historically, burning fossil fuels has been a primary way that we’ve created this heat, but with the renewable power of the sun, that can be eliminated. Solar power is captured using a variety of systems, including linear concentrators, dishes and power tower systems.
PicoTurbine International’s solar power products and curriculum strive to engage learners and advance green energy education.
